Nokia E90 CommunicatorIt’s hard to believe but it’s been 10 years since the first Nokia Communicator was announced in 1997. The E90 is the eleventh Communicator model, following the 9000, 9000i, 9110, 9110i, 9210, 9210i, 9290, 9500, 9300 and 9300i. The word “communicator” was made up by Nokia and identified a whole family or devices armed with QWERTY-keyboard. That didn’t hamper other manufacturers in their attempts to position their solutions after this device and name their products in a resembling way.

Nokia N810 To Compete Against iPhone

Nokia N810Nokia today introduced the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet, signifying a new phase in portable internet communication. Sporting Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a full-fledged web browser, there’s only one thing missing: WiMAX. In the meantime, the N810’s Wi-Fi connectivity will provide Internet access through hotspots as well as home and office networks, while the Bluetooth 2.0 support provides Internet access through cellular data networks when connected to phones with Dial-up networking (DUN) support.

The Sleek Nokia 6301

Nokia just launched the Nokia 6301 phone. It offers consumers seamless voice and data mobility across GSM cellular and WLAN networks via Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology. The Nokia 6301 phone uses UMA technology to integrate the benefits of landline and a mobile phone.

Yves Maitre, Senior Vice President, Devices, Orange (the company that will offer the phone) said “The Nokia 6301 is a stylish new addition to our Unik range of converged fixed and mobile phones. Nokia N81 8GB Slider

The Nokia N81 8GB-packed music phone is likely to be one of the new multimedia phones introduced by Nokia at its London launch on 29 August.

The Nokia N81 hasn’t been officially announced by Nokia yet. But a viral advertising campaign is underway which features what appears to be the N81 with a countdown timer onscreen counting down to 9am on 29 August. That’s the time of Nokia’s UK press launch (Tech.co.uk will of course be reporting from the launch).

Nokia 888

Take a look at the Nokia 888 communicator, a concept design that recently won Nokia’s Benelux design contest. The bracelet-like 888 is envisioned to use a liquid battery, feature speech recognition, a flexible touch screen, and a touch sensitive body cover. A video showing off the device’s potential features shows off close to a dozen functions, including an alarm clock, PDA, GPS, phone, push email receiver, digital wallet and, of course, jewelry. And, other than the “liquid battery,” we can actually see this in the not-too-distant future. Just give us some full-color E-ink, flexible OLED displays and inkjet-printed circuit boards, and we’re almost there.
