We’ve been waiting patiently for the Samsung Omnia 2 ever since June, but now at long last, the titanic Windows Mobile smarpthone is here at last. It may not be as big, but the 3.7-inch OLED screen on it is more than a match for the HTC HD2’s display, so read on to see it come out of its box at long last in our gallery right here!

Having played with a finished Samsung Omnia 2 for the first time, we’re torn. We were all over the HTC HD2’s capacitive screen when we got a hold of the fella earlier on in the week, but Sammy’s OLED screen looks even better. Screens, snaps and videos are all eye popping, and make the iPhone seem positively low-res.

Naturally, Samsung’s also seen fit to give Windows Mobile 6.5 a facelift, ironing out the horrible grey boxes and menus with colourful and easy to poke options, as well as TouchWhiz for homescreen widgets.

Samsung Omnia 2, now with Windows Mobile 6.5
On the downside, though Samsung has improved its keyboard since the Jet – you can now roll across keys – the Samsung Omnia 2’s virtual board is still lacking. Is that a price worth paying? Hold tight and we’ll tell you in a full Samsung Omnia 2 review soon.
In the meantime, help your eyes to all the shots in our gallery, post haste!

The announcement came in Italy, where the phone will be initially released. Incidentally, the phone was released by none other than Steve Ballmer who felt, the phone was “the most fashionable phone he’s ever had a chance to talk about.”

The new phone is only known as the Samsung Armani phone as Samsung hasn’t given it a specific name. Hardware wise, the device is similar to existing WinMO phones from Samsung — especially the W820 and the W8200. On the features front, it comes with a 3.5 inch AMOLED touchscreen display, GPS, 5MP camera, 8GB of internal memory, MicroSD card slot, and a full QWERTY keyboard.

When released, the phone is expected to cost $1032 (approx. Rs. 47,913) which is the price you pay for owning Armani branded stuff. There is no word as to when the phone is expected to be released worldwide.

Another high-end camera phone from Samsung seems to be under way, unofficial information has leaked. The Samsung G800 slider has a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with 3x optical zoom and is likely the successor of Samsung G600, which was recently announced.

Despite the G800 being a slider, the camera sits on the back of the phone complete with a sliding lens cover and faux-leather finish. One of the most disappointing aspects of the G600 was its lack of 3G or HSDPA but we still can’t confirm whether the G800 will rock up with these connection speeds. It also looks like you’re going to have to wait until early next year to get your hands on this sweet snapper.

The Samsung G800 is ready for mobile television by supporting HSDPA connectivity next to the standard GPRS and EDGE. Mobile Television involves bringing TV services to the mobile phones. It combines the services of a mobile phone with television content and represents a logical step both for consumers and operators and content providers. The Samsung G800 is ready to become Samsung’s all-round multimedia player.

As expected, Verizon has welcomed the Samsung SCH-U700 Gleam into its lineup, a blindingly shiny flip with a solid spec sheet to back up the glitz. Samsung SCH-U700 is the only 3G cell phone that Samsung showed off in the Barcelona 3GSM show. With measurement of 12.1 mm width, Samsung claims that the U700 cell phone is the world’s slimmest 3G phone that supports HSDPA network. Verizon Wireless is getting close to the launch of the Samsung Gleam SCH-U700 in early October.

The U700 will feature a 2MP Camera, QVGA Internal Display, External Music Controls, MicroSD card slot, and new Themes. After the U700, the U900 (replacement of the A990) is expected to be released by the end of December, which will have a 3MP Autofocus Camera.

The Gleam’s outside is a glossy metallic bronze and black and houses a sleek silver keypad. The new living wallpaper capability allows Verizon Wireless customers to easily see the phone’s status with either a city or country view that changes with the time of day.

Besides that, the features that set the new Samsung U700 cell phone apart from Samsung U100, U300 and U600 are the additional 3.0-MP camera for video conferencing and FULL browser support for better internet browsing experience.

The Gleam will be available for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement online at verizonwireless.com and in more than 2,300 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores.

Samsung and fashion label Armani have kicked off their recently announced partnership with the launch of a credit-card sized handset that sports a user interface with a vibro-feedback feature.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen Samsung’s Armani phone, but its official unveiling happened in Milan yesterday, following Giorgio’s runway show. The credit-card-sized phone is 10.5 mm wide, has haptic feedback and will be on sale in Europe from November. An Armani-Samsung Casa LCD TV is to follow in January. Stats, pricing and more pics and pricing of the cell are below.

It’s a tri-band handset with GPRS and Edge for data. No 3G, then, but it does have a three-megapixel camera and also includes a music player and Micro SD memory card slot. Short-range connectivity is available over Bluetooth.

Apparently, the handset is designed for the ‘technically advanced user who’s also looking for a beautifully designed handset’. So, the sales angle is much the same to the one taken by Levis for its recent handset and by LG with the Prada phone.

The P520 will be available in Europe from November for around €650 (£452/$917). It will be sold through Armani stores and, as yet unknown, “selected” mobile phone shops.

Samsung and Armani aren’t stopping with just a handset. The two companies have also announced that a jointly branded LCD TV will be released in January, as part of an Armani home interiors product line.

Ultra Edition 10.9. The “Worlds Slimmest Slider” Sheds Another 2mm

The Samsung X820 is one of Samsung’s Ultra series of superslim phones, and at just 7mm thick it’s the thinnest of the Ultra series, and the thinnest mobile in the world at launch!

The rise of the superslim mobile began with the Motorola RAZR in 2004 at 14mm. Before this most mobiles were at least 20mm thick, so the RAZR caused quite a stir. The Motorola L6 replaced the RAZR as the world’s thinnest, at just 11mm, and for a while the Samsung P300 was the thinnest, at 9mm. Now comes the Samsung X820, pushing the limit even further – to half the thickness of the RAZR! All this in just two years! The RAZR was hugely popular; the L6 quite popular, although with too low a specification to be a big seller; the P300 was just too weird to be mainstream; but the X820 has got what it takes to be a really popular phone. It does compete with the other Ultra phones however, especially the sliding Samsung D900.

Despite being so thin, the X820 feels solid enough (the casing is actually slightly flexible – this stops the ultra-thin plastic from breaking) and is nice to hold. The keypad is large and very easy to use, and the overall styling is very nice. It’s worth noting that as well as being the world’s thinnest phone, it’s also the lightest. This is due to its small volume and the use of plastic instead of metal in the casing. It feels as light as a feather!

Now, not only have Samsung created the world’s thinnest phone, but what’s equally amazing is the specification of the phone. How on earth have Samsung managed to pack so much into the virtually non-existent space inside the X820? First up, there’s a 2 megapixel camera. Whilst this can’t compete with the top of the range phones from Sony Ericsson or the Nokia Nseries smartphones, it’s still one of the best cameras available in a phone and takes excellent pictures. The video camera is also excellent, with a high reolution of 355 x 288 pixels. Images and videos are displayed very nicely on the bright TFT display, which is large at 1.9 inches, handles 262k colours and is high resolution.

The X820 has a stereo MP3 player that supports a wide range of formats and can handle playlists. Output is through the speakerphone or a stereo headset. Memory is 80 Mbytes, which is enough to store a couple of dozen MP3 tracks, but there’s no memory card option to expand the memory. High quality MP3 ringtones are supported.

Connectivity options are good, with support for Bluetooth (including a Bluetooth stereo headset), USB and a TV-Out port so that you can view images or video directly on a TV. The X820 supports MMS and email, with a Picsel viewer for viewing attachments. GPRS and EDGE support enable fast downloads. An offline mode is available for using the phone without making or receiving calls. One small complaint, in common with many Samsung phones, is that there’s no option for the phone to vibrate and ring simultaneously. Finally, battery life is no better than average, which is not surprising when you consider the problem of fitting a battery into such a small space.

Features of the Samsung X820 include:

2.0 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom

Video camera (355 x 288 pixels – up to one hour duration)

Display: 262,144 colours, 220 x 176 pixels (1.9 inches)

Samsung announced the Ultra Special series at the ITU Telecom 2006 show in Hong Kong. The SGH-F500, also known as Ultra Video, is going to be the first phone on the market to directly support the DivX video codec. DivX has been showing it’s very keen to expand with the company previously saying it wants to get DivX technology into more consumer electronics (by that I mean DVRs, DVD players etc and not a DivX hairdryer).

The first thing you notice about the handset is its extra large and bright LCD and the twistable base. Unfortunately there are no further details available but we shall keep you updated on this one for sure! Perhaps the SGH-F500 can be considered as the follow-on device from the Samsung P900 / P910 models, but it’s a much more elegant design. Samsung have designed the F500 so that it can be placed on a flat surface, rather that the P900/P910 which is a handheld device.

The Samsung F500 receives digital TV transmissions using the DVB-H standard, as does the Samsung P910 and overdue Nokia N92. We don’t know if there will be a version of the SGH-F500 supporting the rival T-DMB platform, nor do we know if the DVB-H receiver is an add-on or will be included as standard in some F500 variants. (See our writeup on the Nokia N92 for a brief explanation of DVB-H).

Samsung F500 is a 3G UMTS phone, with tri-band GSM support (900/1800/1900). The Samsung F500’s 3G capabilities allow the handset to download multimedia over a UMTS network, as well as play back stored data and receive digital TV signals. The F500 can be connected to a PC via a USB 2.0 connection. Overall size is a relatively slim 116 x 50 x 11mm. There’s no WiFi though, which seems to be an annoying omission.
